Hey, welcome to Shevy Blogs! A personal blog/journal for me (Shevy) to use whenever I feel that I have something to say.
Blog post numero uno! No pressure then, right? Well, the truth is that this is probably my third or fourth ‘first post’ in the last few years. Oh, how I wish now that I had not deleted the blog sites of yesteryear. How I wish that I had stuck to one website and chose to reinvent it instead of removing it altogether. It’s 2020, Bill & Ted finally have a sequel but sadly, I do not have a WordPress time machine. It’s time to start from scratch.
Who is Shevy?
Writing about myself is probably the single most challenging thing I’ve ever done; let’s give it a go.
I’m a 35-year-old mum of two girls (9, 14) and recently got engaged to a bearded biker-in-training. A Scorpio by birth, I am a Scorpio by nature but I am best served with a pinch of salt. I was born in North London but later emigrated with the family to Johannesburg, South Africa in 1990. It was in South Africa that I birthed my daughters and met my late husband, J-P. In 2014, I decided to move back to the UK and now live in Reading with my girls; my fiancé Daniel; two snakes and, three cats.
In a tragic turn of events, it was in 2018 that I lost my husband quite unexpectedly. This devastation had a massive impact on who I am as a human being and how I choose to live my life. Grief taught me that life is TOO SHORT to be doing anything that makes me unhappy. So, I changed a few things.
Aspiring Digital Marketer
I gave up a successful 15+ year career in corporate travel to explore my love for digital marketing. I completed a CIM certification and I’m actively pursuing a return to the corporate world to grow my marketing career. Though not the best time for job-seeking (thank you COVID-19), I do believe the right fit will soon come along.
My focus over the last 12-14 months has been on mental and physical well-being. What began as motivation to lose a few kilograms to ditch Warfarin soon became a full-blown fitness overhaul! I have now lost 60 kilograms and gained a very active lifestyle. This includes running the streets of Reading, weight training 3x per week and, carefully controlling what I consume.
I am passionate about being and getting tattooed! Part of my love for this dermal decoration is the ability to stand out from the crowd. I love watching the process of my skin becoming as patterned/colourful as my personality; my mission is to prove to the world that tattooed people are not in fact social deviants. I want to show people that being tattooed and being successful are not mutually exclusive!
As a concerned mum of children constantly attached to their devices, I decided to give Fortnite a try. I wanted to know what all the fuss was about, what they were doing on ‘there’. Just shy of a year later, I am an administrator on the Fortnite Mums UK Facebook group; a community for mums in the UK who love to play Fortnite!
When I am not glued to my phone/computer or exercising, a victory royale is next on my to-do list!
Why a personal blog, again?
I have had my fair share of blogs in the past, some used for business purposes in the hopes of generating a digital income and others were purely an outlet for my thoughts. I have tried to reinvent myself over the years in the form of blog websites and have tested various approaches and themes, some successful and others not.
Instead of temporarily shutting down these web pages or taking a blogging break, I have always opted for permanent closure. This is because I have yet to find a space on the web that accurately reflects who I am as a person and as a writer. I would like to believe that the universe had other plans, that I just wasn’t yet ready and perhaps this time I will be.
What is a personal blog anyway?
A personal blog is an online journal or diary that will allow me to post thoughts and pieces that are not necessarily theme-specific. I have a lot to share and I don’t want to limit myself to theming a website by imposing restrictions on my content. This blog is about me but also, about you, the reader and what it is you would like to read about.
Feel free to get in contact with me at any time. Share your thoughts and comments or perhaps give me the next blog post idea!
WELCOME TO SHEVY BLOGS | MY PERSONAL BLOG
On that note, you know a little bit more about me and hopefully have a better idea of what to expect from this website.
I will undoubtedly look back on this post in years to come and wonder what on earth I was thinking but for now, thank you for being here.
